Desert Boy

The dreamer of the story. Though his dreams are fantastical, his thoughts remain locked upon the girl he loves. His fear of loneliness and anxiety towards what decision he should make next culminates into a vast desert that appears never-ending.

little owl

A mental construct that acts as the Desert Boy's guide through The Desert, neutrally explaining the sights he witnesses while also warning him of his inevitable demise if he continues to linger in this sea of doubts and anxiety.

The Desert

A manifested dreamscape of the Desert Boy representing his anxieties, fear, and uncertainty. Though, in the distance, he thinks he can make out his hopes past the dust.

The Ruins

The site and source of the Desert Boy's loneliness and anxiety. little owl leads him here to prove that this site is only temporary, soon to be swept away in the dust of his never-ending worries. Whatever fear or anxiety that felt so real in the Desert Boy's head is already a passing thing. Once the point is proven, the Desert Boy can leave The Ruins for brighter hopes ahead.

The Stars

A mental manifestation of the Desert Boy's logic and reason. The Stars wish to speak sense into him, but his gaze is locked onto the storm in front of him for the majority of his journey. They observe the Desert Boy silently until his realization at The Ruins. It is then that they drive the point into him: Your fear and anxiety are passing things, but hope is always ahead, so long as you remain steady.
